Killer Sweetener

We already know that sugar is bad for your teeth. Furthermore, the sugar is also pretty harmful to your body as it contributes to obesity, diabetes and other systemic conditions.

The best way to solve this problem is not to consume sugar at all. However, you and I all know that this is simply not possible. So one of the ways to get around this dilemma is to use sugar substitutes like Sugar Twin or Splenda.

There are number of different kinds of sugar substitutes. Some are natural; some are artificial. All of the well-known sugar substitutes are good at preventing tooth decay as bacteria cannot utilize them for energy. However, these sugar substitutes may not help you with your general health due to a number of reasons.

Fortunately, we have a substance called Xylitol. It is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol (not sugar) that is very similar in structure to actual sugar. It tastes like sugar. It helps with diabetes (with glycemic index of 7) and weight control. Most importantly, it is a substance that bacteria cannot use, and is the substance that actually kills tooth decay causing bacteria.

Xylitol is so similar to sugar structure that bacteria thinks it is sugar. But once they digest it, they cannot utilize it to produce energy. As a consequence, the bacteria simply starve to death. It is truly an amazing substance for cavity control.

You can get it from dental offices that carry it. The only downside is that it is more expensive and not readily available. You do have to do some searching. But in the end, I can assure you it will be worthit.
